Daniel Goleman
Author, Emotional Intelligence Psychologist

Profile

Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman’s groundbreaking international bestseller, has transformed the way the world educates children, relates to family and friends and does business.

The Harvard Business Review called emotional intelligence (EI) “a revolutionary, paradigm-shattering idea” — the kind of idea that does not just advance the conversation, but permanently alters it.”

Since its release, Emotional Intelligence has been a runaway success, achieving bestseller status in the U.S., Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. It has been translated into 30 languages, with over five million copies in print.

Not only was your presentation energizing and thought-provoking--as evidenced by the audience reaction--you are also a consummate professional and a pleasure to work with.

While Dr. Goleman does not discount the importance of IQ, he believes it is not the sole measure of one’s intelligence and potential. According to Goleman, EI (which involves self-awareness, emotional balance, motivation, empathy and social finesse) is a critical indicator of success in life. Although shaped by childhood experience, EI can be improved and developed by learning throughout life.

With his New York Times bestseller, Working With Emotional Intelligence, Goleman placed EI directly in the workplace, clearly outlining its vast importance in achieving success in any professional setting. He then wrote the article “What Makes a Leader?” the most requested reprint in the history of the Harvard Business Review.

Dr. Goleman also is co-author of the 2002 release Primal Leadership: Learning to Lead with Emotional Intelligence — a Wall Street Journal, Business Week and New York Times business bestseller. Co-written with Richard Boyatzis and Annie McKee, Primal Leadership unveils new scientific evidence demonstrating that a leader’s emotional competencies have an enormous impact on group performance and an organization’s bottom line.

In 2002 Dr. Goleman was named one of the top 10 “business intellectuals” by the Accenture Institute for Strategic Change, which ranked the most influential thinkers and writers on business management topics.

In Destructive Emotions: How Can We Overcome Them? (Jan. 2003), Goleman provided illuminating commentary on a historic meeting between the Dalai Lama and a group of world-class scientists and philosophers. His other books include The Meditative Mind, The Creative Spirit and Vital Lies, Simple Truths.

Dr. Goleman reported on the brain and behavioral science for The New York Times for 12 years and was awarded the American Psychological Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

His latest New York Times bestseller, Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships (September 2006), explores the groundbreaking neuroscience behind everyday interactions and what it means for success in life.
