"LoveMusik"

Prince's first Broadway show in almost a decade follows the unlikely love affair of German composer Kurt Weill ("The Threepenny Opera") and his Viennese muse, singer Lotte Lenya. The action moves from Berlin to Broadway, with stops in Paris and Hollywood. The style of "LoveMusik" dotted with numbers from Weill's eclectic songbook, incorporates elements of German expressionism, vaudeville, '40s musicals and torch-song cabaret. The shifting tone reflects the permutations of a couple who loved as large as they lived, reinventing themselves during the turbulent '30s and '40s as they moved from Europe to America. The New York Times called it “unmissable.”

Showboat
|

The most recent adaptation of the original production of Show Boat is Hal Prince's 1994 Revival of Show Boat. The production won 6 1995 Tony Awards. Prince reworked and reexamined the legacy of Show Boat from Kern, Hammerstein, and others, to create a contemporary success: a production that retains the innocence of the text yet is theatrically innovative.
